Design for Congruent (by definitions)

An age-old symbol, ouroboros, represents many meanings throughout time across multiple cultures. The name originates from the Greek word οὐροβόρος, that loosely translates to “tail-devourer”, while in Egypt it refers to the union of Ra-Osiris that can be found on King Tut’s tomb, and the imagery has been associated with Hindu cosmology as one of the foundations of Earth.  Today, the ouroboros are commonly understood as a symbol for the cycle of destruction and rebirth.

The Aurora Cultural Centre is currently seeking artworks that touch on themes of cyclical patterns, habits, self-destruction, relapse, growth, stagnation, and/or metamorphosis.  Open to interpretation, we welcome artworks with both literal and abstract connections to this theme. Artworks of all forms including installation, sculpture, 2-dimensional, and time-based are welcome.

Selected artists will receive an honorarium for exhibited artwork. Artists are responsible for transportation/shipment of all work to and from the gallery. All sold artworks are subject to 40% commission.

This group exhibition will run from October 30, 2024 – January 18, 2025, within the Great Hall Gallery at 22 Church Street.
