Workshop description from the artist:
I will be teaching the public how I relate my own mandala light installations as an assemblage of the self and how mandalas are used culturally as meditative/healing tools. The Found Object Mandala workshop will explore pattern, repetition, and colour. The task is to create a mandala using found objects – items like salt, rice, beads, or rocks are a good material to start with.
Materials will be available; however, we encourage participants to bring their own! Suggested materials include small objects, specifically, ones that come in colours that you are particularly drawn to! For example:
• Rocks & other pieces from nature
• Buttons
• Stamps
• Beads
• Embroidery thread
• Get creative… what else do you have laying around the house?
Have questions about what to bring? Contact gallery manager Samantha Jones at samantha@auroraculturalcentre.ca with your ideas.
“A tin of embroidery thread has been sitting in my closet for years... I always loved the vibrant blues, but I hardly use them. I’m bringing them to the workshop!” – Samantha Jones, ACC Gallery Manager.
