Discover the beauty of working with the fascinating and unique medium of traditional glaze oils with Instructor Kathy Marlene Bailey, who is among a handful of artists in Canada to work and instruct in this highly specialized field. Geared to both the absolute beginner and the advanced artist, this short course will guide you through the process of traditional glaze oils, going step by step into layering and building complex luminous colour – just as the Old Masters did. In this five-week short course, students will unlock the mystery of why the colour qualities of contemporary works are so different from those of the Old Masters while having fun and leaving with their own piece.
This class uses non-toxic and fume free materials. All beginners are encouraged to have materials supplied by the Instructor and pay a material fee of $25.00. If bringing your own supplies, bring only those specified on Materials List available for download above.
Meet Your Instructor
Instructor Kathy Marlene Bailey (B. A., Art Ed., Creative Arts) graduated from the University of Toronto in with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education and holds a diploma from Sheridan College in Creative Arts. In her first year of university, Kathy had the pivotal experience of learning traditional glaze oil painting and is one of a handful of artists in Canada who works and instructs in this highly specialized field. Kathy has participated for many years in commercial galleries, art events, juried shows, several major exhibitions, and has won many awards for her work. She is currently represented by Christina Parker Gallery in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
