Colour Around Us
WEEK 4 | July 26-30
Mixed Media Mashup | Ages 7 – 12 | 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm on Google Classroom | $100.00
Dress for mess! This week is all about using big and bold splashes and pops of colour to create bright and imaginative pieces. Campers will learn how to mix colours, create light and dark hues, and discover which colours help each other pop out and step back.

Our Home Is Where the Art Is Virtual Summer Camp is a unique blend of lively interactive online sessions along with fun and engaging art activities to do offline, all specially curated by our highly skilled and creative summer staff.
Offline Activities:
Campers will be provided with 1 to 2 video tutorials daily through our virtual camp platform, Google Classroom, to keep them busy and engaged at home while not participating in their live session. These tutorials will be directly related to our weekly themes, and your camper will be able to follow along with step-by-step instructions. These tutorials are intended for your camper to do at their own pace — some activities will be more technique-focused, some will need the great outdoors, and some will be just plain fun!
Live-Online Sessions:
In addition to this, each day campers will be able to log-on to our virtual camp platform, Google Classroom, in a live-online session where they can interact with their friends and counsellors. During this live session campers will participate in art activities, ask questions, play games, break out in dance parties, sing songs, and have virtual snack time with their friends! Some weeks will also feature special guests in the live sessions, including our gallery and performing artists.
Art Kit:
Let us do the shopping! An Art Kit with tools and materials (plus a free t-shirt and tote bag!) is available for curbside pickup at Aurora Town Hall, you just need to supplement your kit with a few basic supplies from home. Art kits will be available for parents/guardians for curbside pick-up at the Aurora Town Hall (100 John West Way, Aurora) from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm on the Friday before your camp week unless otherwise stated.
What equipment will my child need?
1. Computer/laptop or tablet with web browser and internet access.
2. Webcam and microphone will be required to participate in live-online sessions.
3. Personal Gmail email address. Please note that contrary to what was previously posted, we have now discovered that institutional email addresses (i.e. YCDSB/YRDSB/other school boards, work, or university) will NOT be able to access Google Classroom as these institutions restrict access. You will need a PERSONAL Gmail email address to be able to access our Google Classroom. If you or your camper do not already have a personal Gmail account you will need to create one. Please contact us at info@auroraculturalcentre.ca if you have any questions about this.
4. Basic items such as pencils, pens, erasers, scissors, glue, markers, etc
The rest is provided by us in your art kit!
What are we doing about security?
We are ensuring a safe place for campers to connect via Google Classroom. This is a secure platform that most public school boards in the area (i.e. YCDSB & YRDSB) have also been using to introduce students to distance learning over the past several months, so you and your camper will be familiar with this platform. As always, Aurora Cultural Centre full-time staff, Education & Outreach Manager Leanne DiMonte will be involved in the planning of activities and participate and oversee live-online sessions. At all times your camper will be interacting with multiple other campers and at least two counsellors in live-online session classrooms.
“This was an awesome camp! We needed something positive, fun and immersive, and your camp counsellors certainly delivered. This summer has been lacking in fun things for my kids to do, and it was so nice to have this week to look forward to and then participate in. Way to go Cultural Centre, and thank you!” – Parent of a happy virtual camper
