Sharpen your pencils and discover the basics of drawing and sketching while learning a variety of techniques. Through in-class exercises and demonstrations, students will explore observational drawing, learning how to see, how to translate light and shade, positive and negative space, as well as value, perspective, contour, and composition. Instructional handouts will guide students through their process. New students and seasoned artists welcomed. Materials List available for download above.
Meet Your Instructor
Instructor Jan Dolby is an internationally published illustrator. After studying Fine Art at the University of Guelph, and a career in arts administration, she decided to follow her passion and start her illustration and design studio The Pink Suitcase. Jan has illustrated over 20 picture books and has been working her craft for over 15 years. She was born in St. John’s Newfoundland and now lives in Aurora with her family where she spends her days creating illustrations. Jan is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Illustrators for Hire and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.
