Art Bytes | Fly Freeman with Francis Muscat “Kinetic Sculptures”

In conversation with Fly Freeman and Francis Muscat about the art of collaboration. A behind the scenes look at how two sculptors with 2 different aesthetics but the same work ethic have collaborated on projects for over 13 years.

Fly Freeman is a sculptor who has been a resident in Uxbridge, Ontario since arriving from Europe in 2001. Freeman began as a stone carver but has since expanded her sculptural practice to include many other materials. Freeman discovered that the same ideas can be explored with glass and wood as they can be with tons of granite in a quarry. Her work investigates the unseen physical forces gravity and friction, balance and tension. Canada has opened Freeman up to a more extreme climate, and thus has created series of works that look at summer thermals in the air; winter energy banked under dormant form.

Francis Muscat’s life is centered around creativity. Muscat’s environment is important to him, and if it can be altered it will be. His surroundings become the canvas, nature is his muse and objects become precious items.
