Monday-Friday
Take a voyage of discovery around the globe to learn about how different artforms have been created around the world. From Japanese ink painting to Celtic knotwork, campers will gain insight into a variety of cultures this week. Each week finishes with a student art exhibition for family & friends!
Home Is Where The Art Is – Virtual Camp
Home Is Where the Art Is is a unique blend of live-online and offline learning. Campers will be provided with 1-2 video tutorials daily that they can do at their own pace. In addition to this, each day campers will be able to log-on to our virtual camp platform, Google Classroom, for a live-online session for 1-1.5 hours, where they can interact with their friends and counsellors.
Young Artist Studio live-online sessions will take place for 1 hour daily. At time of registration you will have the option to choose between two classroom times, depending on availability:
9:00 am – 10:00 am daily
10:30 am – 11:30 am daily
Offline tutorials will be available for you to download on Google Classroom daily.
What about art supplies?
For each week that your child is registered, they will receive their own art kit which contains all of the artist-quality tools and materials they will need to create their projects from home, including a camper t-shirt! Art kits will be available for parents/guardians for curbside pick-up at the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex (1400 Wellington St East, Aurora) from 5:00 pm -6:30 pm on the Thursday before your camp week, unless otherwise stated.
What equipment will my child need?
- Computer/laptop or tablet with web browser and internet access.
- Webcam and microphone will be required to participate in live-online sessions.
- Personal Gmail email address. Please note that contrary to what was previously posted, we have now discovered that institutional email addresses (i.e. YCDSB/YRDSB/other school boards, work, or university) will NOT be able to access Google Classroom as these institutions restrict access. You will need a PERSONAL Gmail email address to be able to access our Google Classroom. If you or your camper do not already have a personal Gmail account you will need to create one. Please contact us at info@auroraculturalcentre.ca if you have any questions about this.
- Basic items such as pencils, pens, erasers, scissors, glue, markers, etc
The rest is provided by us in your art kit!
What are we doing about security?
We are ensuring a safe place for campers to connect via Google Classroom. This is a secure platform that most public school boards in the area (i.e. YCDSB & YRDSB) have also been using to introduce students to distance learning over the past several months, so you and your camper will be familiar with this platform. As always, Aurora Cultural Centre full-time staff, Education & Outreach Manager Leanne DiMonte will be involved in the planning of activities and participate and oversee live-online sessions. At all times your camper will be interacting with multiple other campers and at least two counsellors in live-online session classrooms.
