Visual artist Arnie Lipsey and Gallery Manager Ashlyn Gregory discuss Lipsey’s solo exhibition Past. Tense. in the context of Lipsey’s artistic practice and inspiration.

Arnie Lipsey, son of European-Jewish immigrants, grew up in Montreal and studied Film Animation at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts School of Art and Design. Based in Toronto, his long career in classical and digital animation included directing, design, and storyboarding. Arnie augmented his commercial work with independent filmmaking, producing two animated shorts that have been screened internationally.

Since returning to painting in 2018, he has exhibited widely in Ontario and Florida, served as an arts grant juror in St. Petersburg, and held a solo exhibition at the Museum of Jewish Montreal in 2024. His work is held in private collections in Ontario and Quebec. Arnie is represented in Canada by James Rottman Fine Art.
