Instructor Karen Johnston (B.F.A., RECE) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from OCAD University in 2021 in Drawing and Painting and her Early Childhood Education Diploma from Durham College in 2018. Karen is a practicing artist, author, and illustrator of two children’s books (Mr. Bob’s Magic Ride in the Sky, 2002 and Six Owls and A Party, 2015). After working for many years in advertising as a layout artist, art director and freelance graphic designer, she established mosaicworks (2005), a small design studio that focuses on creating and teaching visual arts (more specifically drawing, painting and mosaicking) for which she has provided in-school workshops for students. In addition, Karen has worked at daycare centres as an RECE and Educational Lead.
