About the Collective:
Northern Star is a visual arts collective consisting of seven Chinese Canadians practicing artists residing and working in the Greater Toronto Area. These artists include, Feng Yu Wei, Richmond Guan, Hu Zu De, Phoebe Lo, Sun Chang Yin, Ann Yan and Paulo Zheng. Northern Star is a collaboration that aims to share and celebrate the artistic works within the existent contemporary Chinese community through presenting their ideas of Canadian culture.
The Group of Seven is inspired by the elements of their immediate landscape and environments surrounding their living spaces. Likewise, such elements also inspire the Northern Star, and thus, both collectives share a similar vision in capturing Canadian spaces that are influential. Passage is an example for the cultural and artistic influence that the Group of Seven has brought about for artists utilizing a similar approach to their artwork within Canada.
The exhibition is curated by Stephanie Nicolo with the Northern Star Collective.
